The Compromisso Marítimo de Olhão currently houses the City Museum. It is a building of great historical value and deserves a visit because, in addition to its own history, it exhibits several temporary or permanent exhibitions throughout the year on themes related to the city and the county.

Created between 1768 and 1771, it was built to support the city’s fishermen, had on the ground floor, a “botica” (pharmacy) and a butcher shop to serve seafarers and on the main floor was located the Sala dos Despachos, which features a painting on the ceiling of wooden roof where the coat of arms of the Portuguese royal arms stands out.
